This questions has kept me awake for the past week as it floated around in my head, attacking every possible solution I came up with. "How to engage teenagers?". Teenagers are at that stage of their life when they are extremely self centered. We teens like to think that we are the most important people in the world. Us and our phones. So how do we penetrate that infinite wall of 'me!'?
Well this blog is the result of those many sleepless nights. I realised that in order to get teenagers to engage with environmental issues and to get them involved in the solutions, we have to speak their language. Social media. Teenagers love being online, on social media, connecting with people over the Internet and so to communicate these issues with them, I knew I had to get online. Teenagers love being social and love being independent from their parents. In other words, we are pretty rebellious. 'We don't care what the hell our parents say, we are going to do it anyway!' I also realise that I needed this blog to be relatable. Teenagers needed to be able to indenting with the issues that are discussed and be able to voice their opinions on the matters. This is a vital skill for teenagers to develope and it gives them the opportunity and the confidence to change the world. Thus I have decided to create a number of forums where teenagers can voice their opinions on environmental issues. Another very important factor in every teenagers life is their reputation. 'What will he think?'. 'Will she still be my friend?' We are incredibly concerned about the way that the rest of the world perceives us to the pint that we don't even think about who we really want to be inside. So, people have to be able to express themselves without feeling like they aren't 'cool'.
Who knows if this will work. I just wanted to give it a go because I am sick of seeing my peers so removed from the environmental issues that will most definitely shape their lives and have a huge affect on their children's lives. I won't be upset if this doesn't work out how I imagined it to because I believe that as long as you try and give it your best, you can't possibly fail.
