I came upon this story today and I feel like it wraps up 2017 really nicely. This has been an amazing year for the whole world not only in terms of the environment but as an accepting global society. This year we have brought environmental issues to the lime light and I truly believe that 2018 will be the year of positive change in the conservation of the environment.
Penguin swims 5000 miles every year to be reunited with his human friend...
This adorable little penguin was found by Joao Pereira de Souza in 2011 covered in oil and dying on his beach in Brazil. After cleaning him up and naming him Dindim, Joao found himself with a new friend who refused to leave for 11 months. After the penguin had changed his feathers he disappeared only to Joao's residence return a few months later. For the past 4 years, Dindim has spent around 8 months with Joao, valiantly protecting him from the other animals and reserving all his cuddles for the man who saved his life. For the rest of the year it is believed that Dindim goes to breed off the coast of Argentina and Chile yet he apparently seems more and more happy to see Joao when he returns. "When he sees him he wags his tail like a dog and honks with delight"
Let this story of love and compassion be a little reminder to all of us that we are PART of nature not APART from it and we are meant to protect it just like it protects us. Happy new year everyone, let's put being kind to the environment on our new year's resolutions and make 2018 the year of CHANGE!
