Today, I didn't know what to write. I haven't been particularly inspired nor disheartened this week, nothing special has caught my eye and, basically, nothing out of the ordinary occurred which might be the basis of an interesting blog post.
So today I have decided just to write, to express my train of thought and just explore the ideas that pop spontaneously into my head. Take the back seat in this process and let my values speak for themselves.
"Let's start with lunch..."
I find it really heart-warming seeing all these small businesses opening to cater for special dietary needs and promoting healthy eating choices. Eating wholesome plant-based food at Pure today reminded me exactly why I chose a plant-based diet and inspires me to continue embracing these healthy food habits.
I have absolutely nothing against people who eat meat; however, I find it a bit frustrating when they continually treat people who make different food choices as if they are a minority and an extreme group of people who are seeking attention. This is so not true, people who adopt vegan, vegetarian and plant-based diets are making an ethical decision on what they want to eat based on their own values and their intention to nurture the planet and their body with healthy food. There is no question that the vegan meals served in cafes such as Pure Wholefoods are absolutely amazing, regardless of whether or not you choose a plant-based diet yourself. There is no rule excluding certain people from eating in these cafes and I think that everyone should experience a wide range of foods and embrace healthy and wholesome menus that offer nurturing food.
The straw situation...
Straws are convenient, I get it! But are they really necessary? It seems that we have just adopted these useless things without even considering their environmental impact. So many people in Manly walked past with their take-away smoothies and straws poking out of the plastic lid. I can't help but wonder what has happened to the idea of sitting down and drinking your drink from a glass! We are so caught-up in the world of "take-away" we have "taken away" our freedom of choice and our ability to say no. I think it is really time for society to take a good look at our planet and decide what we want our future to look like and what we are going to do to get there.
