Apologies for not posting yesterday- got held up!!!
I was doing some reading on the Plastic Free July website and I came across a recipe for toothpaste.
I was a little confused by this until I remembered something that is so easily forgotten. There are actually tiny pieces of micro-plastics in many cleansing products and these end up being consumed by us or washed down the drains to the ocean.
You may think that pieces of plastic must be harmless because they're so tiny we don't even notice them but they actually do huge amounts of damage to our bodies and the ocean marine life.
When animals consume plastics, even tiny micro-plastics, our bodies can't digest it properly and it sits in our stomachs leaking harmful chemicals and blocking our digestive system.
So when you think about plastic free living, that even includes all our soaps, shampoos, and toothpastes. I haven't actually made toothpaste before but I'd definitely like to try it some day. I'd love to hear from you if you've done it and tell me how it went.
Check out the recipe here and more alternatives for plastic free July...

Until then, don't forget that starting tomorrow is no take-away cups week. If you still don't have your keep cup, don't fret. You can get them from many cafes and super markets.
