"I can't make a difference..."
Yes you can!!! This is the biggest misconception that I come across and it is honestly ridiculous. To think that you won't a difference has already put you in the fail box. No one can succeed with that sort of mindset.
I spent many years trying to get my friends to change their behaviour and start doing things 'my way' because I thought that I wasn't doing enough, that I wasn't making a difference. But in actual fact, all I did was make enemies of my friends. No one wants to be constantly told that they are doing it wrong because, quite frankly, no one is going to admit that they are wrong in the first place. Lets face it! When I finally realised that my constant nagging was doing me no good, (and probably just making a waste of the earth's resources as I spent so much energy reminding people to bring their re-usable drink bottles), I gave up. I decided that I would just do my own thing and just accept that no one cared and that they were not going to change.
Shortly after this, people started taking more notice of my eco-friendly ways. People started to see what I was doing and copy. I found out that, when you give people a bit of space and just become a good example, more people are willing to follow you. And then something amazing happens, you start a revolution. You start a trend that grows and grows until you have changed the behaviour of those around you. This may be something simple such as using containers instead of plastic glad wrap but it all happened because of you.
You can make a difference by just being yourself. If you lead by example then people start to follow and you end up with a huge change.
Remember from little things, big things grow.
