Hi Everyone!!!
This year for Plastic Free July I have decided to do something completely crazy!!!
I want to involve all of you in a Plastic Free July 2016 Challenge!
I know that it's a crazy idea, especially as July is just 3 days away but I wanted to see how many people I could get on board to participate in this awesome event. I thought what better way than to start my own challenge that is fun and unique and super easy!!!
My challenge is as follows...
Week 1: 1st July to the 7th July
No straws or plastic cutlery
Straws and plastic cutlery are two extremely easy items to avoid but both are very hazardous in the environment. It can take a plastic straw 200 years to decompose! I would think that no one would use plastic straws as they are so bad for the environment and so easy to avoid.
Week 2: 8th July to the 14th July
No bottled water
Bottled water is (in my opinion) the most pointless thing in the world. It takes a plastic bottle 450 years to decompose and costs 2000 times the amount of tap water!!! This is hands down the stupidest invention and anyone who buys bottled water should seriously be questioning their values!
Week 3: 15th July to the 21st July
No take-away cups
Once again, a very silly idea when bringing your own cup is so so simple. Take away coffee cups are super cheap and actually very stylish. They last forever and give you enormous amounts of satisfaction. A typical Styrofoam cup will never ever decompose!!! Can please take a moment to think of every Styrofoam cup you have ever used and then imagine the animals that choked to death on that and the beaches that have been destroyed by that.
Week 4: 22nd July to the 31st July
No plastic bags
A slightly longer week for this one because I think that plastic bags are so wasteful and such an important item that needs to be banned. Luckily we have a few places in Australia with brains who have actually taken the steps to ban plastic bags but seriously- its a world-wide problem and it starts with you! Plastic bags take up to 500 years to biodegrade and we are using them much faster than that.
In edition, I will be posting daily during July with tips and ideas for inspiration for your plastic free challenge!
So lets show the world that there are still people left in the world that care about our future and lets show people that single use plastic is not essential!
